Teaninich - Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Teaninich ist eine Whisky-Destillerie in Alness. Sie wurde 1817 von Hugh Munro auf seinem Anwesen Teaninich Castle gegründet und gebaut.
Trotz anfänglicher Schwierigkeiten bei der Beschaffung von Gerstenwhisky aufgrund der hohen Nachfrage illegaler Brennereien produzierte Teaninich bis 1830 30 Mal mehr Whisky als bei seiner Gründung.
Im Jahr 2000 wurde in Teaninich eine Hammermühle mit Maischefilter installiert - die einzige, die in einer schottischen Malzbrennerei in Betrieb ist.
Mit dieser Technologie, die einen Maischebottich überflüssig macht, wurde eine ultraklare Würze erzeugt, die einen Hinweis auf den Charakter der Teaninich-Brennerei gibt: eine duftende exotische Grasnote, die an japanischen Grüntee und kumarinhaltiges Bisongras erinnert.
Im April 2013 kündigte der Eigentümer Diageo eine erneute Renovierung der Destillerie an. Die neue Brennerei soll einen anderen Namen als Teaninich tragen und einen eigenen Whisky herstellen.
In der Brennerei werden hauptsächlich Malts für Verschnitte hergestellt, und sie wird für Johnnie Walker Red Label verwendet.
